Philippines & Vietnam – Airworks Aviation Academy, one of the Philippines' longest-operating CAAP-approved flight training institutions based at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, has been selected by VietJet Air to deliver cadet pilot training.

  • The agreement was signed on 17 April 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City with VietJet Aviation Academy and positions the Philippines as a rising alternative to Australia in the Asia-Pacific pilot training market.
  • VietJet is Vietnam's largest airline by fleet size and holds the biggest aircraft order book in Southeast Asia at approximately 500 aircraft, underscoring the scale of the airline's future pilot training demand.
  • Airworks is already the only flight school in the Philippines operating an airline-backed cadet program, currently served as the official training partner for the Cebu Pacific Cadet Pilot Program. The VietJet agreement represents the company's first international airline cadet training contract.
  • Cadet pilots are expected to train in the Philippines for approximately 18 months, generating export revenue and supporting local economic activity across housing, tourism, services, and long-term job creation in training, maintenance, and technical roles.
  • The partnership is backed by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), with Cebu's local government positioning the province as an aviation hub through pro-investment policies and airport expansion.
  • Airworks plans to scale capacity through fleet and facility expansion, with the aim of attracting additional airlines across the Asia-Pacific region.

Statements

  • "This is more than a partnership. It is a defining moment. It signals that the Philippines is ready—not just to supply aviation talent—but to train the world's future pilots at the highest standards," said Vincent Charles Ong, President of Airworks Aviation Academy.
