French Flight School Orders 6 Training Aircraft

Based in Tours (France), Mermoz Academy offers a range of training courses in aeronautics, ranging from theoretical training to practical training. A partner in particular of ENAC and the French Aeronautics Federation, the school has trained more than 50,000 flight crew members since its creation in 1957. In order to support the development of the school and meet the expectations of young pilots, Mermoz Academy has relied on a modern fleet equipped with the latest technologies.

For its Ab initio single-engine training, the school chose the Sonaca 200 aircraft – “We selected Sonaca Aircraft’s two-seater because this aircraft allows us to save more than 50% fuel compared to the current fleet and significantly reduce noise emissions.” said Stéphane Larrieu, Managing Director of APA Training. “With a sound level rated at 67. db, the Sonaca 200 is now one of the quietest training devices on the market (Class A, CALIPSO classification).”

Along with the environmental aspects and reduced operational costs, Mermoz Academy chose the Sonaca 200 for its flight behavior and its equipment. “It is a robust aircraft, very maneuverable and responsive, with safe behavior and certified for day & night flights, which makes the Sonaca 200 a particularly suitable aircraft for training! The aircraft is modern and equipped with the latest instruments from the Garmin range: the G500 TXI and GI 275, both TSO1 certified” said Stéphane Larrieu.

Mermoz Academy has set up a maintenance workshop to provide maintenance and guarantee the reliability and availability of its fleet in close collaboration with the Sonaca Aircraft after-sales service, which makes available to all its customers , individual parts, assemblies and sub-assemblies via its “MySonaca” platform.

The Mermoz Academy order concerns 6 Sonaca 200 Trainer Pro type including 3 firm orders and 3 options. Deliveries are scheduled for April 2022, July 2022 and early 2023.
