US Regional Airline Launches FAA-Approved VR Pilot Training Program in 2025

30th Apr 2025

USA – Envoy Air, a regional airline headquartered in Texas, has enhanced its pilot training curriculum with the launch of a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-approved Virtual Reality (VR) training program at its Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) training centre.

  • The new VR program is part of Envoy’s ongoing efforts to align its training with evolving FAA aviation standards and industry needs.

  • Pilots now use the VR software to conduct simulated preflight walkarounds and complete flight deck flows and checklist procedures—critical elements in safe aircraft operation.

  • According to Captain Allen Hill, Director of Flight Training at Envoy, “Our in-house training team has been working hard over the last year to introduce this VR software into our training program. We’re proud to say that not only have we received approval from the FAA to incorporate this into our program, but we are also the first U.S. airline to get this certification.”

  • The VR software enables trainees to identify and respond to potential issues in a controlled environment, significantly enhancing scenario-based learning without the need for aircraft downtime or physical damage.

  • While primarily designed for pilot training, the VR platform also benefits Envoy’s Aircraft Maintenance Technicians (AMTs), providing virtual access to aircraft interiors and enhancing technical awareness and inspection readiness.

  • The system is housed in a designated classroom at Envoy Headquarters (EHQ), but is also accessible via personal devices, ensuring continued training flexibility for both pilots and mechanics outside the training centre.
