Global – Airbus has appointed ASML President and CEO Christophe Fouquet as a Non-Executive Director and selected Michelin CEO Florent Menegaux for election to its Board in 2027, as Amparo Moraleda assumes the position of Chair following René Obermann’s departure.

  • Airbus’ Board currently comprises 12 directors. Fouquet was co-opted on 1 October 2026 to complete Obermann’s remaining Board term and is expected to seek a full three-year mandate at the company’s April 2027 Annual General Meeting.
  • Fouquet has served as President and CEO of semiconductor equipment manufacturer ASML since April 2024. He joined ASML in 2008, became a member of its Board of Management in 2018 and previously led the company’s Extreme Ultraviolet and broader commercial activities.
  • Jean-Pierre Clamadieu will not seek another mandate when his current Airbus Board term expires at the 2027 AGM. Airbus has selected Florent Menegaux to succeed him, subject to shareholder approval for a three-year Non-Executive Director mandate. Menegaux currently serves as Managing Chairman and General Partner of Michelin.
  • Amparo Moraleda became Chair of the Airbus Board on 1 October, succeeding Obermann, whose departure had been announced at Airbus’ April 2026 AGM. Obermann has left the Airbus Board to focus on his role at SAP.
  • Moraleda and Oliver Zipse, whose current mandates expire at the 2027 AGM, will both seek new three-year terms. Airbus has also appointed Mark Dunkerley as Lead Independent Director and Chair of the Remuneration, Nomination and Governance Committee, roles previously held by Moraleda.

Statements

  • “On behalf of the entire Board, I want to express our deepest gratitude to René for his exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication as Chair over the past eight years. As I step into this role, I look forward to working closely with my fellow Directors, drawing on their deep expertise to ensure Airbus remains agile, resilient, and well-positioned to seize future opportunities and navigate the challenges ahead,” said Amparo Moraleda, Chair of the Airbus Board of Directors.
  • "I would like to warmly thank René for his commitment, trusted partnership and rigorous focus on long-term value creation throughout his tenure as Chair. René provided steadfast guidance through many of the crises that Airbus navigated during his mandate, including the COVID pandemic. He consistently championed innovation in aerospace and defence, encouraging team Airbus to push boundaries across our businesses. I wish him the best in his future responsibilities and look forward to working closely with Amparo and the Board to continue driving Airbus’ long-term growth and strategic ambitions," said Guillaume Faury, Airbus CEO.
