USA – US aircraft manufacturer Boeing could require a second 737 MAX final assembly line at its Everett facility as early as 2028 if planned 737-10 deliveries and wider production-rate increases develop as projected. Boeing has not announced a second Everett line, but is already transitioning production toward 47 aircraft per month and has stated that its newly activated North Line will support Rate 52 and higher, with increased delivery volumes bringing forward aircraft-induction, pilot qualification and recurrent-training requirements across 737 MAX operators.

Estimates are that the existing Everett North Line has capacity for approximately 15 aircraft per month (currently manufacturing around one per month) and that it could support Boeing's stated longer-term ambition of approximately 63 737s per month when combined with the three Renton lines. Its analysis of the 737-10 delivery stream indicates that production beyond that level could require an additional Everett final assembly line as early as 2028.
Boeing officially activated its fourth 737 production line — the first at Everett — in July 2026 following an approximately US$1 billion investment covering facility upgrades, workforce training and production-system development. The line represents the first 737 final assembly activity outside Renton in more than five decades.
Boeing's three Renton lines are transitioning from 42 to 47 aircraft per month during 2026. Boeing states that once Renton is stabilised at Rate 47, the Everett North Line will provide the incremental production needed to reach Rate 52 and support higher rates thereafter.
Boeing states that the 737 MAX backlog exceeds 4,000 aircraft and extends into the 2030s. The manufacturer has positioned the Everett line both as additional output capacity and as a way to improve production resilience by spreading final assembly across Renton and Everett.
Boeing delivered 243 737-family aircraft during the first half of 2026, including 129 during the second quarter. AFM previously reported that first-half 737 deliveries were the manufacturer's highest since 2018 and that Boeing was increasing monthly production from 42 to 47 aircraft during the second half of the year.
