Flytpath Aviation Advances XR Flight Training Strategy Following Varjo Global Summit in Tennessee, USA

Tennessee, USA – General aviation flight simulator developer Flytpath Aviation has highlighted high-fidelity extended reality (XR) as a central element of its pilot training strategy following the second annual Varjo Global XR Summit in Nashville. Flytpath is integrating Varjo's XR technology into its full-motion FP7+ simulator, with the aim of giving flight schools greater capability to practise emergencies, decision-making and instructor-led scenarios outside the aircraft.

  • Flytpath attended the September 1–2, 2026 summit, which brought together simulation developers, aerospace and defense organisations, training specialists and government users for demonstrations and discussions around XR-based training. The event program included a dedicated civil aviation panel alongside sessions covering military and other simulation applications.
  • The company's first FP7+ is being developed around the Cirrus G7+ configuration and combines a two-seat cockpit with a six-degree-of-freedom motion platform covering pitch, roll, yaw, surge, sway and heave. Flytpath is targeting Part 61 and Part 141 flight schools, Cirrus Training Centers, university aviation programs and advanced training providers.
  • Visual immersion is provided through the Varjo XR-4 Focal Edition. The current XR-4 platform uses dual 4K-per-eye displays, a 120° × 105° field of view and 200 Hz eye tracking, while the Focal Edition adds gaze-driven autofocus for its mixed-reality passthrough cameras.
  • Flytpath's training proposition is to bring capabilities more commonly associated with higher-end commercial simulation into a smaller general aviation platform. Its system includes an instructor operating station for changing weather and introducing failures, pilot point-of-view recording for debriefing and scenario-based modules covering events such as icing, windshear, wake turbulence, VMC-to-IMC transitions, missed approaches and other abnormal situations.
  • The platform is also intended for instructor development. Flytpath says instructors can occupy the right seat while simulated student errors and failures are introduced, enabling flight schools to assess recognition, intervention and instructional decision-making without creating the same risks or aircraft costs associated with attempting such scenarios in flight.
  • Flytpath describes the FP7+ as targeting fidelity approaching higher-level commercial simulator environments, but this does not represent FAA Level D qualification. Its current product material states that the device is being developed toward FAA Advanced Aviation Training Device compliance, with approval still pending.
  • The first FP7+ is planned for deployment at Mike Goulian Aviation's Hanscom Field operation in Bedford, Massachusetts. The simulator is currently progressing through integration and testing ahead of that deployment.
  • AFM previously reported that Flytpath reached another FP7+ development milestone in September 2026 with the production of a purpose-built CNC-machined rudder pedal assembly, following the earlier integration of the enclosed cockpit with its complete six-degree-of-freedom motion platform.
  • Flytpath ultimately intends to expand its modular simulator architecture beyond the Cirrus SR series to additional general aviation aircraft types. Its stated objective is to provide flight schools with more opportunities to move suitable training, recurrent practice and emergency preparation into simulation while reserving aircraft time for training tasks that require live flight.
