Germany – Reiser Simulation and Training and Varjo have achieved pre-qualification from Germany’s Federal Aviation Office (Luftfahrt-Bundesamt, LBA) for their H145 D3 Mixed Reality Helicopter Simulator, marking one of the first formal recognitions of extended reality (XR) technology within a regulated aviation training framework.
- The pre-qualified device features a full-fidelity Airbus H145 cockpit developed by Reiser.
- The system integrates Varjo’s newly refreshed XR-4 Series mixed reality headsets.
- Pilots can see their own hands interacting with physical cockpit controls while operating within a fully virtual environment.
- The compact system enables side-by-side pilot and co-pilot crew coordination training without requiring a traditional full flight simulator footprint.
- The XR-4 upgrade includes:Improved ergonomics for extended training sessionsReoriented passthrough cameras optimized for lower field-of-view visibility, critical for helicopter overhead panelsOptional chin strap support for dynamic training exercises
