Grob Aircraft Names Niels Kröning Managing Director as Wolfgang Gammel Moves to Supervisory Board

October 5, 2026

Germany – Military training aircraft and integrated training systems manufacturer Grob Aircraft SE has appointed Niels Kröning as Managing Director effective 1 October 2026, while outgoing Managing Director Wolfgang Gammel has become Chairman of the Supervisory Board and will continue supporting the company’s strategic direction within parent company Helsing.

  • Kröning joins Grob Aircraft after serving as Managing Director of Swissport Losch in Munich from January 2024. Before joining Swissport, he was Vice President European Strategy at aviation training and simulation company CAE, giving him direct previous experience in the military pilot training and simulation sector.
  • During his time at CAE, Kröning was involved with the company’s European defense training activities, including the launch of CAE’s Bremen Training Centre for German Air Force ab-initio pilot training, which was established to train more than 40 student aviators annually.
  • Gammel will remain involved with Grob Aircraft as Chairman of the Supervisory Board following the management handover. He had led Grob Aircraft through its integration into Helsing following the defense technology company’s acquisition of the aircraft manufacturer in 2025.
  • Grob Aircraft is now a wholly owned Helsing subsidiary and continues to focus on its existing aircraft and pilot training systems business while supporting Helsing’s development of new aerospace and defense capabilities. Helsing acquired the manufacturer to combine Grob’s composite aircraft design and production expertise with its software and artificial-intelligence capabilities.
  • AFM previously reported that Grob Aircraft was contracted by SkyAlyne to deliver 23 G 120TP aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force Future Aircrew Training program, where the aircraft will support basic flying training for future RCAF pilots.
