Rhode Island, USA – Aviation industry professional Jessica Power has launched Westerly Aero, an FAA Part 61 flight school operating from Westerly State Airport in Rhode Island.
- Westerly Aero currently lists three principal training pathways: Private Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating and Commercial Pilot Certificate. Training is delivered under Part 61, with Sporty's Pilot Training used for structured ground-school instruction.
- Power said the development grew from her own pursuit of a Private Pilot Certificate and that she was in the process of closing on the first aircraft for the flight school. Westerly Aero's current website now identifies a Cessna 150 as the aircraft used for discovery flights, indicating that the school's initial aircraft is available within its published training offering.
- Discovery flights are priced at US$199 and include approximately 30 minutes of flight time in the two-seat Cessna 150. Westerly Aero advises Private Pilot students to budget for at least 50 hours of training despite the FAA's 40-hour Part 61 minimum, with the school publishing an indicative Private Pilot training cost of US$13,000 to US$18,000 depending on individual progress.
- Power brings more than 25 years of aviation industry experience. Her background includes aircraft sales and acquisitions followed by sales and marketing roles in the avionics manufacturing sector, with experience working with aircraft manufacturers, maintenance organizations, avionics companies and pilots. She is also currently pursuing her own Private Pilot Certificate.
