Florida, USA – Italian aircraft manufacturer Tecnam has launched its P2008JC NG for the U.S. flight training market and is pursuing FAA validation of the aircraft’s existing EASA CS-23 certification, positioning the two-seat high-wing trainer for Part 61 and Part 141 operations.

  • The P2008JC NG received its EASA type certificate under CS-23 Amendment 6 on 23 April 2026. The first production aircraft was delivered immediately afterward to Tecnam Flight Academy for operational training use.
  • Tecnam’s current certification information lists the aircraft under EASA CS-23 and states that validation can be sought with local authorities.
  • The aircraft is powered by a 100 hp fuel-injected Rotax 912 iSc engine and has a published fuel consumption of 3.7 US gallons per hour. Tecnam lists a maximum cruise speed of 118 kt, range of 800 nm and maximum take-off weight of 1,499 lb.
  • The P2008JC NG uses a carbon-fibre fuselage with metal wings and stabilator and is equipped with a Garmin G3X glass cockpit. Tecnam developed the NG version specifically around ab-initio training requirements, including revised cockpit ergonomics and optional autopilot capability.
  • The aircraft is approved under its current European certification for day and night VFR operations. Tecnam is positioning it as a modern replacement option for U.S. flight schools operating older piston fleets, particularly organisations requiring a certificated aircraft rather than an LSA-category platform.
  • Tecnam markets the P2008JC NG within a wider flight-school fleet that also includes the P-Mentor for single-engine IFR training and the P2006T NG for multi-engine instruction, allowing operators to use a common manufacturer across several stages of professional pilot training.

Statements

  • “The American flight training market is growing rapidly, and schools are urgently seeking modern, reliable, and highly cost-efficient platforms to train the next generation of pilots. The P2008JC NG is our direct answer to that demand. By committing our resources to the FAR 23 validation process, we are ensuring that US flight academies will soon have access to a state-of-the-art, fully certified Ab-Initio trainer. Combined with the efficiency of the Rotax 912 iS and VFR Day and Night capabilities, this aircraft lowers overhead costs, maximizes safety, and delivers an exceptional training experience,” said Walter da Costa, Chief Sales Officer at Tecnam.
