Switzerland – Locarno-headquartered approved flight training organisation AELO Swiss Academy has welcomed 19 students who began their pilot training in March 2026 and have commenced the theoretical phase of the program.
- AELO offers an 18-month EASA Integrated ATPL program comprising 220 flight-training hours and 1,000 hours of classroom instruction.
- The latest group follows a February 2026 intake of 23 students at Locarno, bringing the two publicly announced Locarno cohorts to 42 students.
- AFM previously reported that AELO commenced training for a separate group of 12 airline cadets from a French carrier at its Cuneo Airport satellite base in Italy on 16 March 2026.
- AELO currently reports a fleet of 27 training aircraft and operates Diamond DA20, DA40 and DA42 platforms.
- The academy has ordered 12 Diamond DA20 aircraft for delivery during 2026 and holds options for six additional units expected in 2027. The 2026 deliveries were planned at a rate of two aircraft per month for operation from Locarno Airport.
- AELO became a Diamond Authorized Training Center in February 2026, providing manufacturer-aligned instruction on Diamond aircraft systems and operating procedures.
- The students will train from AELO’s 2,000-square-metre Locarno campus, which opened in October 2025 following an investment of approximately EUR 5 million and includes classrooms, briefing rooms, simulator space, a hangar and student accommodation.
