African Flag Carrier and Aircraft Manufacturer Launch Aviation Career Program in 2025

Uganda – Uganda Airlines and Boeing have jointly launched a career-development initiative aimed at inspiring university students to explore aviation industry careers. The outreach session, held at Makerere University, highlighted the multidisciplinary nature of the sector and the growing demand for skilled professionals across Africa’s expanding aviation ecosystem.

  • The program targets university students, providing practical exposure to aviation careers beyond piloting, including engineering, communications, food science, and IT
  • Uganda Airlines CEO Jennifer Bamuturaki emphasized the need for diverse talent pipelines, stating aviation requires a range of academic backgrounds
  • Students were cautioned against recruitment scams, with Uganda Airlines confirming it recruits only via official channels
  • Boeing’s Herb Wallen, Executive Director of Commercial Sales, encouraged students to pursue internships and hands-on training, citing Africa’s rising aviation demand
  • Speakers included Engineer Hamza Bunya, Captain Tonny Tebajanga, and Engineer Victor Kalule, who highlighted the evolving technical landscape of modern aircraft
  • The event concluded with a call for African students to seize new opportunities in a sector that is rapidly becoming a driver of continental economic development and innovation
