Indonesia – Lion Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) and Badan Bank Tanah to explore an aviation-support development around Nusantara International Airport in East Kalimantan, including training and practical-training (AFM team note - asssumes flight training operations) facilities and an aircraft maintenance operation through Lion Group subsidiary PT Batam Aero Teknik (BAT).

The MoU was signed in Nusantara on 14 August 2026 by OIKN, Badan Bank Tanah and Lion Group. The agreement covers identification of a strategic location, use of land managed by Badan Bank Tanah and alignment of spatial planning for a potential integrated aviation-support area around Nusantara International Airport.
OIKN's public communication states that the parties are exploring an aviation training facility and that Lion Group, through PT Batam Aero Teknik, is planned to develop a training and practical-training center together with supporting Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul infrastructure.
The Airport Authority's pre-MoU discussions also covered potential adjacent activities including a flight school, aviation training center, offices and other education and training facilities.
OIKN Head Basuki Hadimuljono told Indonesian media that Lion Group's original interest was in establishing a training center before the concept expanded to include an MRO operation. He indicated that Lion Group was considering approximately 30 hectares for the development.
Lion Group already operates substantial centralized pilot training infrastructure in Tangerang through Lion Group Training Center (LGTC), which supports Lion Air, Batik Air, Wings Air, Super Air Jet, Thai Lion Air and Batik Air Malaysia. Its pilot training portfolio covers Boeing 737NG/MAX, Airbus A320ceo/neo, Airbus A330-300/-900 and ATR 72-500/600 fleets.
LGTC states capacity for more than 2,500 pilot trainees annually and provides type rating courses covering the Boeing 737, Airbus A320, Airbus A330 and ATR 72 families.
Lion Group President Director Capt. Daniel Putut Kuncoro Adi stated in March 2024 that the Tangerang training center operated ten aircraft simulators: five Boeing 737NG devices, three Airbus A320 devices and two ATR 72 devices covering the -500 and -600 variants.
Lion Group has also continued investing in digital pilot training. AFM previously reported in January 2024 that LGTC selected CPaT Global to provide centralized aircraft systems and general-subject computer-based training across six Lion Group airlines and eight fleet categories.
