ASTi Showcases SERA Simulated ATC Training for MPL Programs at Bangkok APATS 2026

Global – Aviation simulation technology supplier Advanced Simulation Technology inc. (ASTi) is presenting its Simulated Environment for Realistic ATC (SERA) platform at APATS 2026 in Bangkok, highlighting its deployment in Japan Airlines’ MPL First Officer Program and ongoing regulatory work around Simulated Air Traffic Control Environments (SATCE). Wider qualification and operational adoption of SATCE would allow cadet and airline training providers to expose pilots to dynamic traffic and ATC scenarios within simulators rather than relying primarily on instructors to role-play surrounding communications.

• ASTi is exhibiting at the Asia Pacific Aviation Training Symposium in Bangkok from August 31 to September 2, 2026, with the company identifying ab-initio and Multi-Crew Pilot Licence training as two of the primary applications for SERA.
• SERA generates simulated controllers, surrounding aircraft and associated radio communications within a flight simulation environment. Training scenarios can incorporate events including weather diversions, runway go-arounds or incursions, traffic-related altitude restrictions and varying levels of ATC interaction.
• Japan Airlines has integrated SERA into its MPL First Officer Program delivered in partnership with CAE at the training provider’s Phoenix, Arizona operation. ASTi states that SERA is used during Phase 2 of the JAL programme and interfaces with Boeing 737NG Level D full-flight simulators.
• ASTi describes JAL as the first airline to use a SATCE platform as part of daily MPL training. The company also states that the first JAL class trained using SERA completed the programme with no failures.
• The JAL deployment traces back to a 2023 SERA order covering two systems installed on Boeing 737NG Level D full-flight simulators in the United States. ASTi initially described the unnamed customer programme as the first operational use of a SATCE solution within MPL training and said the airline had obtained approval from its national aviation authority. JAL was subsequently identified as the airline customer in 2025.
