Auburn University School of Aviation Seeks to Hire Chief Flight Instructor in 2026

Alabama, USA – Auburn University's School of Aviation, one of the largest university-based aviation programmes in the United States, is recruiting a Chief Flight Instructor to lead its FAA Part 141 certificated Professional Flight program.

  • The Chief Flight Instructor will serve as the FAA-designated Chief Flight Instructor under 14 CFR Part 141 for Auburn's University Aviation Center (AUAC), with responsibilities spanning oversight of all student pilot training, management of flight instructor staff standardisation and proficiency, operational safety, curriculum development, equipment acquisition, and departmental budget administration. The role supports a programme of 650 aviation students staffed by 120 certified flight instructors and 25 A&P maintenance technicians, operating a training fleet of 65 Cessna Skyhawks and Piper Seminoles.
  • Minimum qualifications require at least 2,000 pilot-in-command hours, a minimum of three years and 1,000 hours of flight instructor experience (or 1,500 hours total), and holding both FAA Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot and Flight Instructor certificates with single-engine, multi-engine and instrument ratings. Applicants are required to meet FAA 14 CFR Part 141.35 Chief Flight Instructor designation requirements within 60 days of appointment.
  • The position is compensated at $92,370–$175,510 per year. Auburn maintains airline pathway partnerships with Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, and operates from the Delta Air Lines Aviation Education Building — a purpose-built 23,000 sq ft facility opened in 2019 featuring advanced classrooms, debriefing rooms and simulators including an Airbus A320 commercial airline simulator.
