Australia & United Kingdom – Australia and the United Kingdom have both relaxed their government travel advisories for Gulf states, removing key barriers to travel through Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, and other major Middle Eastern aviation hubs following the US-Iran interim deal announced on June 16, in a development expected to restore passenger confidence and accelerate the recovery of Gulf carrier market share on long-haul routes.

Australia's Foreign Minister Penny Wong confirmed the downgrade from "do not travel" to "reconsider your need to travel" for the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Israel, and Kuwait, while the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) lifted its advice against all but essential travel to the UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar.
The removal of the highest-level travel warnings is directly significant for travel insurance coverage — the "do not travel" designation had effectively invalidated insurance for passengers transiting Gulf hubs, creating a structural barrier that redirected traffic to Asian carrier alternatives including Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas.
Gulf carriers, led by Emirates, had carried more than half of all passengers flying from Europe to Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific Islands before the Iran war began in late February, according to aviation data firm Cirium. Emirates announced last week that it would roll out incentives to win back travellers, focusing on reliability and customer support rather than fare reductions due to still-elevated oil prices.
Flight Centre Travel Group reported that travellers with existing European bookings routed via the Middle East had typically amended or cancelled plans due to the advisory, and described the downgrade as "the news a lot of Aussie travellers have been waiting for," with a sharp recovery in enquiries and bookings expected.
Analysts at Bank of America Global Research noted that while restored insurance coverage and more competitive pricing should help Gulf carriers regain market share on Australia-Europe and UK-Europe routes, the shift is expected to be gradual, with Asian carriers retaining a near-term advantage as long-haul bookings are typically made five to six months in advance.
