Australia & Africa – Australian flight simulator manufacturer GeoSim Technologies has developed a custom Cessna 208 Caravan multifunction simulator for an unnamed customer in Africa, with the device configured to support pilot training, emergency procedures and mission-specific operations.

GeoSim says its rapid-prototyping process draws on more than 20 years of simulator development and uses digital design, laser cutting, 3D printing and other manufacturing techniques to reproduce aircraft cockpit dimensions, layouts and controls from aircraft information and customer requirements.
The approach is intended to reduce dependence on donor aircraft during simulator development. Rather than taking an operational Cessna 208 out of service for lengthy cockpit moulding and tooling, GeoSim can develop the full-size training environment from aircraft data and an operator's required configuration.
The C208 platform can be tailored to the customer's operating aircraft, including different instrument layouts, navigation radios, GPS systems and mission equipment. GeoSim lists options including Garmin GTN 750/650 and GNS 530/430 units, as well as TracMap, AgNav and mission-specific systems.
Training applications include aircraft start-up and normal procedures, emergency rehearsal, location-specific operations and multi-aircraft coordination. GeoSim's published C208 capability includes scenarios covering engine failures, electrical and hydraulic failures, flight-display failures, fuel-system problems, control-surface failures and stalls.
GeoSim positions the device for operators seeking to move suitable training away from operational aircraft, reducing fuel consumption, aircraft wear and exposure to risk while allowing emergency scenarios to be repeated in a controlled environment.
GeoSim states that its simulators can incorporate worldwide scenery with GPS-derived terrain and navigation data covering more than 37,000 airports, with customer-specific high-detail areas also available. The C208 can additionally be networked with other simulators for coordinated multi-aircraft and communications training.
