Australia – Tamworth Regional Council is progressing a A$6.61 million upgrade of the International Flight Training Tamworth (IFTT) facility at Tamworth Regional Airport, supported by A$5 million from the New South Wales Government. The works are scheduled through 2028 and are intended to modernise accommodation, training and operational infrastructure while increasing the facility’s pilot-training capacity to more than 200 pilots annually.

  • A$6.61 million is being invested in the project, comprising A$5 million through the NSW Government’s Regional Economic Development and Community Investment Program and approximately A$1.61 million from Tamworth Regional Council. The state grant was approved in November 2025.
  • The accommodation component will refurbish 66 rooms across the C and D blocks, including air-conditioning, electrical, LED lighting, plumbing and painting works.
  • The mess hall, bar, gym and main hangar will receive air-conditioning and lighting upgrades and roof repairs, while the main technical, training and administration building will undergo internal, lighting and roof works.
  • Additional works include installation of a solar-power system, new external LED lighting and repairs to hail-protection nets covering the IFTT apron.
  • Design and planning for the major works are currently underway alongside minor works in the C and D accommodation blocks. Major construction is scheduled to begin in late 2026, with the overall programme expected to be completed in 2028.
  • Tamworth Regional Council states that the investment will increase the facility’s capacity to more than 200 pilots annually and is intended to attract additional tenants and private investment into the aviation precinct.
  • The wider IFTT complex comprises a purpose-built technical building, residential accommodation and hangar infrastructure. Council documentation describes the technical building as providing approximately 5,515 sq m of administration, training and technical space, including purpose-built classrooms, briefing areas, simulator rooms and flight-operations facilities; the residential component was previously identified as accommodating up to 231 residents.

AFM team note: SFC Australia and Singapore Flying Club both operate from Tamworth Regional Airport.
