Australia’s Skytrans Becomes SmartLynx Australia – Growing Fleet in 2025

29th Jul 2025

Australia — Skytrans, an Australian regional airline and Air Operator Certificate (AOC) holder, has officially rebranded as SmartLynx Australia, aligning itself with the global branding of Avia Solutions Group, the world’s largest ACMI provider. The rebranding reflects the airline’s strategic transition from a primarily domestic carrier to a growing player in the Asia-Pacific ACMI market.

  • SmartLynx Australia now joins SmartLynx Airlines (EU) and Thai SmartLynx under a unified brand identity as part of Avia Solutions Group’s global ACMI expansion strategy.

  • The airline’s strategic focus is shifting toward ACMI services, operating a mixed fleet of turboprops and narrow-body jets, including recently added Dash 8-200 and Airbus A319 aircraft.

  • The company will retain its existing scheduled and charter operations, while gradually scaling up its ACMI capacity.

  • SmartLynx Australia currently operates 13 aircraft, with plans to expand its fleet by the end of 2025 to increase operational flexibility and market reach.

  • Avia Solutions Group acquired Skytrans in March 2024, marking its 12th AOC globally and strengthening its ability to mitigate seasonality in European markets through year-round operations in the southern hemisphere.

Statements

  • “The new brand marks a new stage for the business – one that bridges the quality transportation services Skytrans was known for locally and the new line of business – ACMI – that Avia Solutions Group has perfected,” said Gytis Gumuliauskas, Managing Director and CEO of SmartLynx Australia.

  • “SmartLynx Australia represents a key piece of this puzzle, offering us the opportunity to both optimise our fleet use and serve the growing demand in the Asia-Pacific region,” said Jonas Janukenas, CEO of Avia Solutions Group.
