Australia – Sydney Flight College (SFC Australia), a flight training group operating dual bases in New South Wales, has officially introduced the ALSIM Airliner at its Pilot Academy Tamworth — a million-dollar investment and one of only two ALSIM Airliner devices currently operating in Australia, and the first located outside a capital city.
- The Airliner can convert between Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320 flight deck configurations in approximately five minutes, enabling multi-type airline training on a single device. The simulator supports Multi-Crew Cooperation (MCC) training, teaching students to operate as a team on an airliner flight deck and preparing them for airline operations sooner.
- SFC CEO Joseph Pilo described the simulator as the final piece in delivering a complete airline pilot training pathway at Tamworth, reinforcing the college's commitment to regional NSW and Tamworth as a growing centre for aviation training.
- SFC President Steven Kastanias noted the investment addresses rising flight training costs, with leading organisations increasingly using immersive simulation technologies to test and refine scenarios in safe yet realistic environments. The college has commitments with Tamworth Regional Council to reach 200 students by end of 2027.
- The simulator was officially unveiled during a ceremony attended by Tamworth Mayor Russell Webb and The Hon. Kevin Anderson MP. Mayor Webb described Tamworth as the capital of flying training in NSW.
- The first cohort of students to train on the simulator is already enrolled at the college. The device complements SFC's existing simulator infrastructure at Tamworth, which includes motion-capable twin-engine propeller aircraft simulators.
- SFC's strategic positioning of Tamworth is partly driven by the anticipated impact of Western Sydney Airport's opening, which is expected to push training airspace away from SFC's Bankstown home base. Tamworth provides a dedicated training airspace hedge with over 300 flying days per year and purpose-built facilities.
- Tamworth has separately received AU$5 million in NSW government funding to upgrade the International Flight Training facilities at the airport, further bolstering the location's position as a premier pilot training site.
