Minnesota, USA – US aviation insurance service provider 5X5 Aviation Insurance has announced a partnership with Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT) specialist Aviation Performance Solutions (APS) to provide insurance incentives and preferential training arrangements for eligible policyholders. Announced on November 2, 2026, the collaboration connects advanced pilot proficiency training with insurance benefits, encouraging additional instruction in the prevention and recovery of in-flight loss-of-control situations.

  • Eligible 5X5 Aviation Insurance policyholders can receive a 5% insurance premium credit after completing a qualifying APS Upset Prevention and Recovery Training course within the preceding 12 months. The incentive is provided through the insurer's existing Safety Rewards program.
  • The partnership also provides eligible policyholders with preferred pricing and training upgrades on selected APS courses.
  • 5X5's Safety Rewards program recognises voluntary safety practices beyond minimum regulatory requirements, including additional pilot training, flight data sharing and participation in qualifying aircraft owner and pilot associations. The arrangement introduces an insurance-linked commercial incentive for pilots undertaking specialist UPRT instruction.
  • The collaboration targets the risk of Loss of Control In-flight (LOC-I), with APS providing instruction designed to develop pilots' ability to recognise developing aircraft upsets, manage unexpected flight conditions and execute appropriate recovery procedures.
  • APS delivers UPRT through an integrated combination of academic instruction, aircraft-based training, flight simulation and virtual reality. Its training includes exposure to unusual aircraft attitudes, startle and surprise responses, and scenarios intended to develop recovery skills applicable to actual flight operations.

Statements

  • “At 5X5, we believe that pilots who invest in their proficiency are making an investment in safety. APS brings exceptional expertise and a proven approach to upset prevention and recovery training. By rewarding policyholders who complete these programs, we're helping them take a proactive step toward managing risk and being better prepared for the unexpected,” said Doug Tibbs, Managing Director of 5X5 Aviation Insurance.
  • "Advanced training is one of the most meaningful investments a pilot can make in safety. We value the opportunity to work with 5X5 because its approach recognizes the importance of continued pilot proficiency. By encouraging pilots to go beyond minimum training requirements, we can help strengthen their ability to prevent and recover from unexpected aircraft upsets and ultimately bring everyone home safely," said Paul "BJ" Ransbury, CEO of Aviation Performance Solutions.
