Spain – Belgian flight training organisation Skywings Flight Training has reached an agreement with Castellón Airport operator Aerocas to establish a pilot training center at the Spanish airport, where four Diamond DA40 aircraft are now permanently based. Around 60 Belgian students are expected to complete practical training at Castellón each year, providing Skywings with permanent Spanish flight-training capacity alongside its Antwerp operation and existing use of Spain for weather-supported practical training.

Skywings selected Castellón for its weather conditions, controlled airspace, airport infrastructure and range of operational training scenarios. Castellón Airport is authorised for IFR and VFR traffic, supporting instrument and visual flight-training activity.
The Castellón center represents an expansion of Skywings’ existing activity in Spain. Its 2026 training materials continue to identify Mutxamel, near Alicante, as a seasonal winter base used to maintain flight-training continuity when Belgian weather limits flying activity.
Skywings’ integrated Pilot Career Program is structured over approximately two years and combines ATPL theoretical instruction with practical aircraft and simulator training.
The Belgian academy is also the dedicated training provider for Brussels Airlines’ MPL Cadet Program. The 19-month programme trains ab-initio candidates through to an EASA MPL and Airbus A320 type rating before successful graduates join Brussels Airlines as first officers.
Skywings is additionally an approved partner flight school of Lufthansa Group’s European Flight Academy. EFA states that partner schools are regularly audited and assessed against areas including syllabus quality, instructor competency, infrastructure and training devices.
Skywings currently operates two fixed-base simulators at its Antwerp campus: a Simnest Airbus A320 FNPT II APS MCC device and a Diamond Aircraft convertible DA40 NG/DA42 NG FNPT II used for instrument and multi-engine training.
The academy’s current fleet information identifies Diamond DA40-D, DA40-NG and DA42 aircraft together with a Robin R2160 used for advanced UPRT.
AFM previously reported that Skywings expanded its Diamond fleet in 2024 as part of a transition toward Diamond training aircraft, including deployment of DA40 aircraft to its Spanish winter operation. AFM also reported Skywings’ Brussels Airlines MPL partnership and its expansion of simulator infrastructure at Antwerp.
