USA – Boeing’s 737 MAX 7 has officially received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) after a six-year delay, paving the way for deliveries to airline customers. However, while the aircraft shares type commonality with the MAX 8 and MAX 9, operators and training providers are preparing for mandatory differences training due to notable system variances.
FAA certification for the Boeing 737 MAX 7 was granted in October 2025, after delays related primarily to flight control and engine anti-ice system concerns.
Airlines operating the MAX 8 and MAX 9 must still conduct differences training for flight crews transitioning to the MAX 7, as its systems are not fully identical across the MAX series.
The FAA mandates that operators conduct formal training on variant-specific systems and procedures for MAX aircraft, even within the same type rating.
Training providers are already reporting a rise in inquiries from airlines seeking transition training capacity ahead of expected deliveries of the MAX 7.
