Boeing Deploys CBTA Learning Library at California Aeronautical University

California, USA – Boeing has deployed its Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) Learning Library at California Aeronautical University, its first implementation with a US-based flight school.

• Boeing’s 2026 Pilot and Technician Outlook forecasts demand for 674,000 new commercial pilots globally through 2045, providing the workforce context for expanding scalable training resources.
• CAU will integrate the digital library into its existing curriculum to support students as they progress from initial flight training toward commercial pilot qualifications.
• The learning content is designed to develop foundational aviation knowledge, pilot decision-making, threat and error management and operational competencies rather than focusing solely on the completion of individual flight tasks.
• Boeing’s wider CBTA Learning Library includes ICAO-aligned explainer videos, formative assessments and summative evaluations intended for cadets and instructors during the ab-initio stage of training.
• The framework assesses observable and measurable pilot competencies representing operational performance, with training evidence used to identify the underlying causes of performance and guide further development.
• CAU operates FAA Part 141 flight-training programs from locations in California and Arizona and offers qualifications covering private pilot, instrument, commercial, flight instructor and multi-engine training.
• The university has ordered 15 Garmin G1000 NXi-equipped Cessna Skyhawks for deliveries beginning in 2027.
