Boeing Forecasts Doubling of African Aircraft Fleet by 2044 in New Market Outlook
Africa – Boeing has released its 2025 Commercial Market Outlook (CMO) for Africa, projecting the continent’s commercial fleet will more than double to 1,680 aircraft by 2044. The forecast anticipates sustained 6% annual passenger traffic growth, driven by rapid urbanization, a rising middle class, and increased investment in airport infrastructure and intra-continental connectivity.
-
Africa is expected to receive 1,205 new aircraft deliveries between 2025 and 2044:
-
865 single-aisle
-
240 widebody
-
90 regional jets
-
10 freighters
-
-
Single-aisle aircraft will represent 70% of all deliveries, aligning with growth in regional and short-haul international routes.
-
The projected expansion supports a growing role for low-cost carriers across Africa, especially on intra-African and Europe–Middle East connections.
-
Fleet growth will create demand for 74,000 new aviation personnel in Africa by 2044, including:
-
21,000 pilots
-
22,000 technicians
-
31,000 cabin crew
-
-
Services to support this expanded fleet are expected to generate $130 billion in demand over the next 20 years.
