Bristol Groundschool Partners with Kuki Helicopters for ATPL(H)/IR Theory Training

October 20, 2026

United Kingdom – Bristol Groundschool, a UK-based pilot theoretical knowledge training provider, has announced a partnership with Kuki Helicopters, a helicopter flight training organisation based at Gamston Airport in Nottinghamshire. Under the agreement, Bristol Groundschool will supply Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Helicopter) with Instrument Rating (ATPL(H)/IR) theory training materials to Kuki's students, supporting their progression towards professional helicopter pilot qualifications.

  • Established in 1997 by Simon Nicholls, Kuki Helicopters reports more than 29 years of operations and over 20,000 flight hours. The school provides Private Pilot Licence (Helicopter) [PPL(H)] instruction alongside commercial helicopter training, instructor training and aircraft type ratings.
  • The partnership will give Kuki students access to Bristol Groundschool's ATPL(H)/IR theoretical knowledge resources.
  • Bristol Groundschool's standard ATPL(H)/IR theory course covers 13 examination subjects across three modules, with 650 learning hours, including 65 hours of live tuition. The provider estimates a typical completion period of 10–13 months, combining distance learning with online or classroom revision instruction.
  • Kuki Helicopters' aircraft portfolio includes Robinson R22 Beta, Robinson R44 Raven II, MD 500E and Bell 206L1 LongRanger helicopters, alongside Cessna 152 and Pitts S2B fixed-wing aircraft. Its training offerings include helicopter type ratings, night flying, instrument training and instructor qualifications.
  • Bristol Groundschool's ATPL(H)/IR learning system incorporates interactive lessons, progress assessments and examination preparation through ATPdigital, supported by its BGS Question Bank and video library. Its standard course offers an 18-month video library subscription and 12-month question bank access.

  • “In the beginning there was just me and one R22 Helicopter. Now Kuki has been operational for 29 years and in that time we have flown over 20,000hrs, we have a 100% pass rate and more importantly a zero accident or incident safety record, not only at Kuki but also all the students that we have taught and have gone on to fly for pleasure or a career. We steadily evolved into the dedicated team and fleet of aircraft that we have today, encompassing and providing “Everything to do with Flight Training and Aviation,” said Simon Nicholls, Founder of Kuki Helicopters.
