CAE and AirAsia Renew MPL Training Agreement for Five Years

Malaysia – Canadian aviation training provider CAE and Malaysia-based low-cost airline group AirAsia have renewed their Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) agreement for another five years, continuing A320-focused cadet training while identifying potential future cooperation on an AirAsia A220 MPL program. The renewal maintains an established airline-linked pilot pipeline as AirAsia prepares to introduce a new aircraft family from 2028.

• The renewed five-year MPL agreement will continue supporting AirAsia's Airbus A320 pilot-training requirements. CAE describes itself as AirAsia's dedicated training arm and exclusive A320/A330 training partner.
• CAE also said the renewal creates a pathway for potential collaboration on AirAsia's future A220 MPL program.
• AirAsia placed a firm order in May 2026 for 150 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, with flexibility to expand its commitment to as many as 300 A220-family aircraft. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2028, making development of an A220-specific pilot pipeline relevant to the group's longer-term training capacity.
• AFM previously reported that CAE and AirAsia held a senior management strategy review in 2025 focused on training challenges and future areas of cooperation.
