Uzbekistan – Global flight simulator manufacturer and pilot training provider CAE has announced upgrades to Uzbekistan Airways' existing Airbus A320 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) and the planned addition of a Boeing 787 FFS at the airline's Training Center in Tashkent. The developments will expand the national carrier's domestic flight crew training capabilities, supporting its Airbus narrowbody operations and preparations for further Boeing 787 fleet growth.
- Uzbekistan Airways has 22 firm orders for Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, following the conversion of eight purchase options into firm orders in November 2025. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2031, creating a requirement for additional widebody pilot training capacity ahead of the aircraft's introduction.
- CAE's Airbus A320 simulator enhancements are intended to align the existing training device with updated aircraft standards and operational requirements, supporting continued initial and recurrent training.
- The new Boeing 787-9 FFS will be installed at Uzbekistan Airways' Training Center in Tashkent. The airline first disclosed the planned CAE-manufactured device in August 2026, identifying it as the first simulator of its type in Central Asia and indicating that it would reduce the need to send Boeing 787 pilots to overseas training centers.
- Uzbekistan Airways' existing simulator infrastructure includes CAE-manufactured Airbus A320 and Boeing 767 Level D Full Flight Simulators, alongside an Airbus A320 procedure trainer, a Boeing 767 virtual procedure trainer and an IL-114-100 simulator used primarily for research activities.
- The airline currently operates six Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, having introduced the aircraft type in 2016. The proposed new FFS is intended to support flight crew training for the Boeing 787 fleet as the carrier prepares to introduce the longer-fuselage 787-9 variant.
- AFM previously reported that Uzbekistan Airways Pilot School was recruiting candidates for its ab initio pilot training program in November 2025, supporting the airline's efforts to develop its domestic pilot training pipeline.
- The existing CAE Airbus A320 simulator is a Series 7000XR Level D FFS configured for the CFM56-5B4-powered A320, while the Boeing 767 device is a Series 6000XR Level D FFS configured for PW4060-powered aircraft. The planned Boeing 787-9 simulator is intended to meet Level D qualification requirements.
