Singapore– The Centre for Mindfulness (CFM) has partnered with Malaysian flight training organisation Asia Aeronautical Training Academy (AATA) to introduce theCalm in Commandprogram, a mindfulness-informed pilot competency development initiative aimed at enhancing non-technical pilot skills.

Calm in Commandintegrates mindfulness training with pilot competency development to help cadet pilots improve clarity, composure, and confidence in high-pressure situations. The program, developed by Albert Tiong (CMT-P) and Cyrano Latiff, focuses on enhancing situation awareness, a critical factor in aviation safety and decision-making.AATA instructors will also receive training, enabling the academy to integrate competency-based training and assessment (CBTA) into its curriculum. The initiative addresses a gap in flight training, where technical skills are prioritized over structured non-technical competency development.Mindfulness practices in aviation can help pilots manage emotions, recognize environmental cues, and improve decision-making under pressure. With Evidence-Based Training (EBT) now emphasizing core pilot competencies in airlines,Calm in Commandaims to better prepare cadets for assessments and long-term success in aviation careers.
