Chorus Aviation's Cygnet Aviation Academy Opens North Bay Flight Training Facility

October 20, 2026

Canada – Chorus Aviation subsidiary Cygnet Aviation Academy has opened its new flight training facility at Jack Garland Airport in North Bay, Ontario, confirming the operational launch of the expansion announced in August 2026. The additional location will provide modular pilot training initially, with plans to introduce full cadet cohorts as student demand develops.

  • The North Bay facility began operating in early August 2026 from an existing airport hangar, with one flight instructor initially assigned to deliver individual modular training. Cygnet intends to transition to cohort-based training as enrolment increases.
  • Cygnet President Lynne McMullen reported that 34 pilots had progressed through the academy's Jazz Approach Program since its launch in 2023, while its first Destination Porter cadet cohort commenced training in January 2026.
  • The academy currently operates three pilot training pathways: Jazz Approach, Destination Porter and the Free Agent Program. Its integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence (iATPL) training program runs for approximately 20 months, with airline-affiliated pathways providing conditional employment opportunities following successful completion of the required training and selection criteria.
  • Cygnet's North Bay expansion also builds on the existing presence of fellow Chorus Aviation subsidiary Voyageur Aviation at the airport. Voyageur provides much of the aircraft maintenance support for Cygnet's fleet, with training aircraft regularly transferred between Kingston and North Bay.
  • AFM previously reported that Chorus Aviation launched Cygnet Aviation Academy in March 2023 in collaboration with CAE, establishing an integrated pilot training platform designed to prepare ab initio students for First Officer positions with Canadian airlines.
  • According to Chorus Aviation's May 2026 investor presentation, Cygnet's academy-wide training infrastructure comprises 12 Diamond aircraft and two ALSIM simulators. Its fleet includes Diamond DA20, DA40 and DA42 aircraft, while its simulation equipment includes an ALSIM ALX and an ALSIM AL4x.
