Cygnet Aviation Academy Adds North Star Air as Free Agent Program Referral Partner

Canada – Cygnet Aviation Academy has added Thunder Bay-based North Star Air as a referral partner for its Free Agent Program, giving eligible graduates of the airline-focused integrated Airline Transport Pilot Licence (iATPL) pathway an opportunity to interview directly with the regional operator.

• Cygnet’s Free Agent Program runs for approximately 20 months and combines flight and ground training with approximately 90 hours of training on ALSIM ALX and AL4x simulators. Students progress through Private Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence, Multi-Engine Rating, Instrument Rating and iATPL training.
• Under the new referral arrangement, Free Agent Program graduates can be interviewed directly by North Star Air, extending the program’s employment pathways while maintaining its structure as an independent training route that does not bind students to a specific airline.
• Flight training is conducted at Kingston Airport, while classroom and simulator instruction takes place at Cygnet’s Gardiners Road Training Centre in Kingston, Ontario. Training progresses through Diamond DA20, DA40 and DA42 aircraft, with an optional Jet Orientation module available at CAE’s Toronto Training Centre.
• The partnership connects graduates with an operator conducting Canadian Aviation Regulations Subpart 703, 704 and 705 operations. North Star Air operates more than 50 departures daily and over 24,000 flight hours annually across Northern Ontario, Northern Manitoba and Nunavut.
• For Cygnet, the referral arrangement broadens the employment options available to pilots completing an independent iATPL pathway, particularly into regional operations involving passenger, cargo and charter flying across northern Canada.
• AFM previously reported in March 2023 on the launch of Cygnet Aviation Academy and its initial airline-focused training pathway, with the academy established to prepare pilots for direct-entry opportunities with Canadian operators.
