Defence Training Demand Grows Across Asia Pacific Region as Air Forces Modernise Fleets

December 1, 2025

Asia - CAE is expanding its focus on emerging aircrew-training requirements across the Asia-Pacific region, building on its long-standing role as a global training systems integrator supporting 54 defence forces worldwide. The company is positioning itself to support upcoming fighter, transport and rotary-wing training programmes as regional air forces modernise their fleets and seek integrated, multi-platform training ecosystems.

  • CAE reports increasing interest in fully integrated aircrew training systems, combining high-fidelity simulators, instructors, curriculum design, facilities, and live-virtual-constructive (LVC) training environments.
  • The company highlighted the International Flight Training School (IFTS) in Sardinia—delivered in partnership with the Italian Air Force and Leonardo—as a reference model. CAE provides both the Embedded Tactical Training System for the M-346 and the Ground-Based Training System comprising flight and mission simulators, multimedia modules, and classroom instruction.
  • CAE is targeting upcoming opportunities in Japan, where the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) is restructuring its training pipeline following its selection of the Beechcraft T-6 Texan II for basic training and its ongoing search for a next-generation jet trainer.
  • In 2023, CAE demonstrated VR-based training solutions to 30 JASDF cadets on the Subaru T-7, earning positive evaluations and leading to continued discussions.
  • The company has stressed that its training solutions are platform-agnostic, allowing CAE to support any aircraft selected by the JASDF.
  • In Australia, CAE is preparing for future training and simulator requirements for the C-130J Hercules, with the Royal Australian Air Force set to induct 20 new aircraft from 2027. CAE has already supported Hercules training for more than three decades.
  • CAE is also monitoring a potential Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) rotary-wing training requirement, with the current EC-120B contract supplied by ST Engineering due for renewal.
  • In Brunei, CAE continues to provide training support for the Royal Brunei Air Force’s S-70i Black Hawk fleet and is seeking expanded roles supporting the nation’s C295 and H145 fleets.
