Greece – Egnatia Aviation, one of Greece's largest flight training organisation's headquartered in Kavala, has established a partnership with the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), Greece's largest research center, hosting CERTH's first regional office in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace within the Egnatia Aviation premises at Lydia Airport.
- CERTH's regional branch has been officially operating from Lydia Airport since 24 March 2026, with dedicated office space granted by Egnatia Aviation. The new offices are in the final stage of preparation.
- The initial phase of collaboration will focus on CERTH's Institute of Sustainable Mobility and Transport Networks (IMET) providing expertise at Egnatia Aviation's aircraft maintenance station, linking research capability in sustainable mobility and transport with the flight school's operational maintenance infrastructure.
- CERTH Chairman Evangelos Bekiaris and IMET Director Dr. Vasileios Kappatos visited Lydia Airport on 13 May 2026 to inspect the new office facilities and tour selected airport infrastructure, meeting with Egnatia Aviation's Commercial Director George Triantafyllidis.
- The partnership positions Egnatia Aviation's Lydia Airport campus as more than a flight training facility, adding a research and technology dimension that could support innovation in aircraft maintenance, sustainable aviation, and training technology.
