European Flight School Receives First New-Production Two-Seat Trainer After 2025 Relaunch

December 14, 2025

Austria – Diamond Aircraft has delivered the first newly produced European-built DA20i Katana since the aircraft’s production relaunch to Aviation Academy Austria (AAA), marking a key milestone for both the manufacturer and the European pilot training market.

  • The aircraft was formally handed over during a ceremony at Diamond Aircraft’s headquarters in Wiener Neustadt on November 28, 2025.
  • The delivery represents the first of two DA20i Katanas ordered by Aviation Academy Austria, with the second aircraft scheduled for delivery in early 2026.
  • Diamond Aircraft resumed European production of the DA20i earlier this year in response to renewed demand from flight training organisations and private owners.
  • The DA20i Katana is powered by a Rotax 912 i Sc3 Sport engine and equipped with a Garmin G500TXi glass cockpit, providing modern avionics, touchscreen functionality, and enhanced situational awareness tailored for ab initio training.
  • With this delivery, Aviation Academy Austria’s fleet now includes seven DA20i, four DA40NG, and two DA42NG-VI aircraft, reinforcing its focus on modern, standardized Diamond Aircraft platforms.

  • “Relaunching production of the DA20i Katana – and now delivering the first unit in Europe – marks another exciting chapter for Diamond Aircraft and our customers. The DA20i blends tradition with innovation, making it an ideal choice for flight schools like AAA that are committed to shaping the next generation of pilots,” said Jane Wang, Director Sales, Marketing and Flight Ops at Diamond Aircraft Austria.
