Austria –RotorSkyis proud to announce their new addition to its fleet oftraining devices– an EASA qualifiedFTDto be operatedattheir headquarter at Linz international airport (LOWL).The simulator received initial qualification for FTD 1fromAustrocontrolinJanuary 2025.
The simulatorwas defined by RotorSkytodeliver highest quality training for NVISandto meetthe requirements given by EASA PART-SPA.Together with therecommended training syllabus, which was developed by RotorSky, operatorscannowreceiveproficiencytrainingfortheir pilotsto beready for NVIS operations.
The simulatorfeatures two visual systemstoprovide stimulated andsimulated NVG operationfor fixed-wing and helicopter pilots. The unique Virtual Terrain Board (VTB)from JFJprovides a night-realisticout-of-the-window viewallowinguse of any kind ofrealNVG–D-Worlddeveloped bymultiSIMprovidesrealisticsimulated NVGand flying at nightwith VR goggles.
Bringing the best of three companies together was the foundation of creating this unique training tool:
RotorSky GmbH, Linz, AustriamultiSIMBV, Soesterberg, The NetherlandsJFJ Aviation & Defense,Burgkirchen, Austria
Dr. Michael Mayrhofer, CEO ofRotorSkysaid:“The simulator marks another milestone in our consequent journey to bring highestpilottraining qualityto the marketon a reasonable economical basis.Together with thesyllabus, which was developed bymost experienced andinternational recognized expert,an ideal training solution for NVG was created.”
The syllabus contains almost two days of theory, where all relevant aspectsto be considered in an NVG environment arepresented and discussed in detail. Thereafter the pilot will receive a passive demo ofthe effects under realistic conditions using real NVG and the VTB. The next session is alreadya flight session using real NVG to experience the effects duringaircraft operation. Finally, the pilot will receive threemorepilot-in-the-loopsessions in the VR (virtual reality) environmentto gain more experiencewith night operations.
Ing.JosefJoachimbauer, CEO ofJFJ Aviation & Defensesaid:“Our cooperationwithRotorSkyandmultiSIMis a perfect synergy, as the capabilities of the three companies perfectly matches together.JFJ Aviation & Defense strengthiscomplex system integrationforreliable andeffectivepilot training devices, multiSIMprovides excellent simulator software solutions and RotorSkydelivers outstanding pilot training. The next step is to extend the simulator withnormobarichypoxia to also be able to train pilots for reduced oxygen exposure in high altitudes.”
The VR gogglesdisplayD-Worldduringday and night, which isa high-fidelity simulated worldwith realistic light-effectsdeveloped bymultiSIM.This visual systemhas now been qualifiedunder special conditions for VRasthe second in the world, as far as we know.
Dr.MarkWentink, CEO ofmultiSIMsaid:“multiSIM is knownfor its expertise and experienceindedicated defense training applications, where civil qualification is not required. This device marks a milestone ofmultiSIM’sprogessiveevolution, as it is the first EASA qualified training device, which entirely runs on multiSIM software.Weare grateful to be part of this cooperation andalready developing forthe nextgenerationinflight simulators.”
