Angola & North America – AERO Vodochody Aerospace, the Czech Republic's largest aircraft manufacturer, has signed two new contracts for L-39 Skyfox jet trainer and light combat aircraft deliveries — up to four aircraft for the Angolan Air Force and an undisclosed number for a North American civil operator — expanding the Skyfox program to its fourth and fifth continents and filling production capacity through Q2 2027.

The Angolan contract covers delivery of up to four L-39 Skyfox aircraft plus associated products and services to support introduction into service and development of the Angolan Air Force's training system. Angola becomes the first African customer for the Skyfox program and the first Skyfox operator in the Southern Hemisphere.
Angola's original requirement was for the overhaul of existing legacy L-39 Albatros aircraft, but after evaluating operational, economic, and capability parameters, the customer opted to acquire new Skyfox aircraft, citing significantly higher performance, modern avionics, more efficient operations, and long-term training development potential.
The North American contract is with an undisclosed civil-sector customer with long-standing experience operating L-39 Albatros aircraft, and includes commercial representation of the L-39 Skyfox brand in the region — providing AERO with an on-continent presence for active sales and presentation to potential North American users.
Over the past few months, AERO has secured orders for nine new Skyfox aircraft (two subject to options) alongside orders for the overhaul of several legacy L-39 Albatros jets, with a total value exceeding EUR 200 million across customers on three continents: Africa, the Americas, and Asia. Four additional aircraft are in production for an undisclosed earlier customer.
The L-39 Skyfox is now operational or on order across Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America, confirming the program's global market positioning. The aircraft is certified under EU and NATO regulations and is available in both Western and Eastern avionics configurations for all phases of fourth and fifth generation fighter pilot training, plus reconnaissance and tactical missions.
The contracts follow AERO's record 2025 financial results and its January 2026 tour of African air forces to promote the Skyfox platform.
