Czech Republic – Czech flight training group F AIR has commenced a new modular Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) theoretical knowledge course, incorporating Boeing's Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes (KSA) assessment platform into its latest student intake. The training applies competency-based assessment methods during the theoretical phase of professional pilot development.
- The latest cohort comprises 13 students who began training in September 2026 and completed their first KSA Formative Assessment using Boeing's platform.
- The initial assessment introduced students to the principles of Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA), with exercises addressing the development and evaluation of knowledge, skills and attitudes relevant to professional flight operations.
- According to F AIR, the students will continue applying these principles throughout their ATPL theoretical studies and subsequent practical modular training. The academy's modular ATPL theory offering combines distance learning and guided self-study with instructor consultations, preparing students for theoretical knowledge examinations administered by the Czech Civil Aviation Authority.
- AFM previously reported that F AIR began implementing Boeing's Area 100 KSA assessment solutions in March 2026. Six of the academy's theoretical knowledge instructors participated in a two-day Boeing-led workshop covering structured competency assessment, including a practical demonstration involving F AIR students. The September intake demonstrates the continued application of the technology with a newly enrolled cohort.
- EASA's Area 100 KSA framework requires approved training organisations to incorporate the assessment of non-technical pilot competencies, including communication, decision-making, leadership and workload management, into professional pilot theoretical knowledge training. Its associated guidance specifies at least one formative and two summative assessments, with debriefing and student progress documentation requirements. Boeing's platform supports F AIR's implementation of these assessment activities.
