Flight School Introduces CBTA Instructor Seminars in 2025 with Support from European Airline

December 9, 2025

Belgium – Skywings Flight Training Academy has begun implementing Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBTA) standardisation training for its flight and simulator instructor team, marking a significant step in aligning its instructional methodology with modern airline training frameworks.

  • A series of CBTA-focused seminars has been scheduled, with the first session delivered by the Brussels Airlines training management team, recognised as early adopters of CBTA within European airline training.
  • The collaboration enables Skywings instructors to integrate airline-grade training principles across both MPL and Integrated ATPL programmes, embedding CBTA into the academy’s training culture.
  • Skywings noted that applying CBTA enhances student performance monitoring, instructional consistency, and competency development, particularly for students progressing to airline multi-crew environments.

Earlier this year Brussels Airlines had officially opened applications for its 2026 Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) Cadet Program, developed in partnership with Skywings Flight Training. This marks the airline’s third cadet program intake, offering aspiring pilots a direct pathway to the right seat of the Airbus A320 fleet.

  • The program spans 19 months and is primarily conducted at Antwerp Airport, with phases of fair-weather training in Spain.
  • Successful candidates will graduate with an EASA MPL and Airbus A320 type rating, progressing towards an ATPL after 1,500 flight hours. Graduates will join Brussels Airlines as First Officers, flying short- and medium-haul routes across Europe and beyond.
  • The partially sponsored program costs Euro 99,500 (VAT included), payable in three instalments, covering all training except landing fees, Antwerp Airport security badge, and the initial EASA Class 1 medical.
