Spain – Aviation simulation services provider SIM OPS has been selected by Flight Training Europe (FTEJerez) to carry out a significant visual system upgrade on the Jerez-based flight training group's Boeing 737-800 Flight Training Device (FTD).

The upgrade involves replacing the existing visual system on the Mechtronix-built EASA Level 2 FTD with the Simthetiq X2 Image Generator (aXion IG), paired with new high-specification replacement projectors.
A distinguishing feature of the project is the retention and enhancement of the device's full collimated display configuration — a front projection system with a Mylar mirror — which delivers an optically distant field of view and a level of visual immersion rarely found outside full flight simulators, despite the device being qualified as a Level 2 FTD.
The upgrade is being executed in partnership with Simthetiq, the Montreal-based visual systems provider whose aXion IG platform underpins the project.
