USA – FlightSafety International (FSI) has launched the industry's first Advanced Circling and Visual Approach course, designed to enhance pilot and crew proficiency in high-risk maneuvering scenarios close to the ground in reduced visibility conditions.

  • The three-part course includes interactive eLearning building foundational knowledge of circling and visual approaches with associated risks and mitigations, a facilitated ground session reinforcing key concepts through discussion and scenario-based learning, and hands-on simulator training where pilots apply techniques across varying scenarios including complex situations involving mountainous terrain, low visibility, and tighter maneuvering airspace.
  • Early offerings of the course have been met with strong interest across flight operators including corporate flight departments, owner-pilots, and fleet operators, with initial participants citing the course's practical, scenario-based design and emphasis on real-world decision-making as particularly valuable for managing complex approach environments.
  • Based on early demand, FSI will roll out the course across fixed-wing aircraft training programs throughout its flagship learning centers in 2026.
  • FSI currently operates the world's largest fleet of advanced full-flight simulators at learning centers and training locations on six continents, delivering training to pilots, technicians, and other professionals from more than 170 countries.

Statements

  • "Circle-to-land procedures are high risk and require a unified and consistent training framework. This course equips pilots with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence to perform circle-to-land approaches safely and effectively in real-world conditions," said Ben Carter, Executive Vice President of Learning Center Operations, FlightSafety International.
