Fiji – Fiji Airways has formally appointed Paul Scurrah as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 November 2025. Scurrah, a seasoned aviation and transport executive, will succeed Andre Viljoen, who concludes a decade-long tenure that significantly transformed the national carrier.
- Paul Scurrah brings over 20 years of leadership experience across aviation, logistics, rail and tourism, having held CEO roles at Virgin Australia and Pacific National.
- His time at Virgin Australia was marked by strategic restructuring and resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic, preserving routes and positioning the airline for post-crisis recovery.
- At Pacific National, Scurrah led a transformation grounded in operational excellence and commercial sustainability, investing in technology and strengthening national supply chain partnerships.
- Scurrah’s prior roles also include leadership at Queensland Rail, DP World Australia, and as a founding executive of Rex Airlines.
- His appointment follows a comprehensive global search process. The board expressed confidence that Scurrah will guide the airline through global aviation’s ongoing challenges while upholding financial discipline, customer service, and national pride.
Leadership Legacy of Andre Viljoen - Over the past decade, outgoing CEO Andre Viljoen has led Fiji Airways through significant milestones:
- Global recognition: Fiji Airways became the smallest carrier ever to win the APEX World Class Airline Award (2026) and achieved Top 10 global airline status.
- Fleet and revenue growth: Fleet expanded from 12 to 23 aircraft, including Airbus A350s; revenue more than doubled from FJ$815 million (2015) to FJ$1.9 billion (2024).
- Fiji Airways Aviation Academy: Established a world-class simulator facility with four full-flight simulators, serving regional clients like Air Tahiti, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas.
- Viljoen will remain on the Fiji Airways board and has taken up the CEO role at Air Mauritius. The airline confirmed there is no conflict of interest due to differing regional operations.
