Germany – Reiser Simulation and Training GmbH (REISER), a German manufacturer of flight simulation and training systems, has outlined an integrated training approach for the Airbus H140 helicopter, examining how Full Flight Simulators (FFS), Flight Training Devices (FTD) and Extended Reality (XR) technologies could support pilot and crew preparation ahead of the aircraft's planned entry into commercial service.
- Airbus Helicopters expects the H140 to enter service in 2028, initially targeting helicopter emergency medical services (HEMS) operators. By the end of 2025, the manufacturer had recorded more than 100 commitments for the aircraft, including 61 firm orders.
- REISER's training approach focuses on defining crew competencies and mission requirements early in the aircraft introduction process, allowing operators and training organisations to establish suitable training methods before operational deployment.
- The company identifies the importance of developing training scenarios around specific mission profiles, including crew responsibilities, cockpit-to-cabin communication, decision-making and coordination during operational and emergency situations.
- Rather than relying on a single simulator configuration, REISER proposes combining different training technologies according to the competencies being developed, allowing operators to distribute training activities across devices with different capabilities.
- AFM previously reported that REISER's Airbus H145 D3 XR simulator received EASA FTD Level 3 qualification from Germany's Luftfahrt-Bundesamt in March 2026. The qualification demonstrated the manufacturer's existing capabilities in mixed-reality helicopter training using physical cockpit controls and virtual visual environments.
- Under REISER's proposed training structure, Full Flight Simulators would support complex aircraft systems, flight procedures and mission scenarios; Flight Training Devices would provide repeatable procedures and systems instruction; and XR-based solutions would complement technical familiarisation, spatial understanding and crew coordination training.
