Greece – AEGEAN has appointed Michalis Kouveliotis as Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective October 12, 2026, succeeding Dimitris Gerogiannis. The leadership transition retains oversight of the airline's technical base and flight training center under its outgoing chief executive as the group continues developing its aviation training and maintenance infrastructure.

  • Dimitris Gerogiannis, a founding executive of AEGEAN who served as CEO for 20 years, will remain with the airline as an Advisor, with responsibility for overseeing its Technical Base and Training Center. The arrangement is intended to support continuity during the transition to the next generation of management.
  • Kouveliotis previously served as AEGEAN's Chief Financial Officer, a position he held since before the airline's listing on the Athens Stock Exchange. In early 2025, he became Deputy CEO, assuming responsibility for coordinating the group's business divisions and preparing for the leadership transition.
  • AFM previously reported that AEGEAN appointed Stella Dimaraki as Chief Financial Officer and Ilias Mandroukas as Chief Commercial Officer, effective October 1, 2026. Both had previously served as deputy heads of their respective departments.
  • AEGEAN is continuing its pilot workforce development through its scholarship program, which offers 40 places for the January 2027 training cycle. The program provides ab-initio pilot training, followed by aircraft type rating and airline preparation, with the airline reporting a cumulative investment exceeding €17 million (approximately US$19.7 million) since its launch in 2018.
  • The AEGEAN | CAE Flight Training Centre at Athens International Airport operates four full-flight simulators, with infrastructure designed to accommodate up to seven devices. Its simulator fleet comprises:
    • 2 Airbus A320neo FFS
    • 1 Boeing 737NG FFS
    • 1 ATR 72-600 FFS

Statements

  • “Dimitris Gerogiannis, together with Theodoros Vassilakis, shaped the quality and customer service culture, as well as the principles of fairness and collaboration within our company. Dimitris has the rare ability to combine technical expertise with human approach. For all of us, he is a co-founder of the company, and this will not change with the handover of the CEO position. After all, he will continue to support AEGEAN as it moves forward from its founding leadership team to the next generation of executives. Michalis Kouveliotis, who is taking over as CEO, has already demonstrated his ability to support the company through both periods of growth and crisis. Over the past two years, as Deputy CEO, he has led the transition process, while his positive energy and drive have already left a strong mark on the organization. I am confident that he will excel in his new role. Our key objective should be to empower and further develop the collaboration between the company’s second generation of executives, building on the legacy of our founding team as they gradually step back. We must preserve our core values of service quality and agility, renew our momentum in our product and network destination development as well as the growth of new talent with even closer teamwork,” said Eftichios Vassilakis, Chairman of AEGEAN.
