Greece - Global Aviation SA has officially been cleared for takeoff, securing the operating license for the private “Ikaros Airport”, an exciting new gateway for light aircraft rising in the area Kopaida, north of Athens and set to energize Greece’s aviation scene, rendering Global Aviation the only ATO in Greece to 100% own and operate a private airport.
Granted by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the license places Ikaros Airport in the Category B’ class of civil airports for light aircraft, with an open-ended duration that signals a bold, long-term vision for growth, connectivity, and innovation.
Built for performance and round-the-clock capability, Ikaros Airport boasts an 858-meter asphalt runway, ready to handle both day and night operations with ease. All flights will operate under Visual Flight Rules (VFR), fully aligned with international standards, while the countdown has already begun, with first takeoffs expected as soon as next month.
More than just an airstrip, Ikaros Airport is designed as a vibrant hub for pilot training and general aviation. It will accommodate Global Aviation’s fleet alongside approved third-party aircraft, creating a dynamic and accessible environment in the skies. A dedicated aerodrome traffic zone will keep local flights flowing smoothly, while mandatory flight plans for every arrival and departure ensure precision, structure, and top-tier safety.
This follow's 2025 which was was a record-breaking year for the company, marked by a 19% increase in total training sessions and a 65% increase in student numbers. During the year, Global Aviation welcomed 138 ATP Integrated student enrollments and 50 Modular enrollments. The academy also continued its successful collaborations with Aegean Airlines for its Cadet Program, as well as with EPST in the Netherlands and the Airline Pilot Club.
