Heading365 Launches Airbus A220 FMS Trainer PRO

Austria – Aviation training software provider Heading365 has introduced its Airbus A220 FMS Trainer PRO, an iPad-based training application combining flight management system functionality with Primary Flight Display (PFD), Vertical Situation Display (VSD) and Flight Control Panel (FCP) elements.

• The A220 FMS Trainer PRO incorporates free-play training, integrated autoflight, flight-phase simulation, scenario-based exercises and worldwide navigation data. Heading365 says the platform can also be extensively customized for commercial operators and training organisations.
• The application brings the A220 FMS together with the PFD, VSD and FCP within the same iPad training environment. Heading365 said it developed a new interface for the A220 rather than reproducing its previous trainer layouts, with the objective of retaining usable FMS controls while giving pilots visibility of how FMS inputs affect the wider aircraft and autoflight system.
• Integrated autoflight functionality allows pilots to practise approaches and scenarios while observing the interaction between A220 avionics systems. The application also provides a save function through which training states can be stored and subsequently loaded, allowing instructors to prepare specific starting points for briefings and exercises.
• The trainer is currently offered for commercial customers, with access keys distributed through participating airlines or training organisations.
• Heading365 positions its wider FMS Trainer PRO product line around moving FMS skill acquisition ahead of full-flight simulator training. The company states that this allows simulator sessions to concentrate on other training objectives and can reduce the requirement for additional sessions when pilots require more time to develop FMS proficiency.
• Heading365's website currently lists FMS Trainer products covering the A220, A320, A330/A340, A350, A380, Boeing 737, 747-8, 777 and 787, together with Embraer E-Jet configurations. The company reports that more than 62,000 pilots use its products across individual and commercial training applications.
