Hungary – Hungarian flight training provider Trener Flight Academy has welcomed 50 new cadets under Wizz Air's Pilot Academy (WAPA) program, marking its largest reported WAPA intake to date. The WAPA 25 group joins the academy's airline-aligned training operation in Nyíregyháza, supporting Wizz Air's ongoing development of its future pilot workforce.

  • The 50-cadet intake exceeds the academy's previous reported record of 46 students enrolled under WAPA 22 in October 2025, representing an increase of approximately 9%.
  • Trener Flight Academy has served as an official Wizz Air training partner since 2016, delivering integrated ab initio pilot training to support the airline's first officer recruitment pipeline.
  • Wizz Air's published training schedule identifies October 12, 2026, as the start date for its latest intake at Trener, with further courses scheduled for February 15, May 24 and October 11, 2027.
  • The Wizz Air Pilot Academy pathway comprises approximately 18 months of ab initio training, followed by airline-specific training. Cadets progress through ATPL theoretical knowledge, Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL), multi-engine and instrument ratings, Advanced UPRT and Airline Pilot Standards Multi-Crew Cooperation (APS MCC), before proceeding to Airbus A320 type rating and airline conversion training.
  • Trener operates a fleet of more than 20 training aircraft comprised of 14 Piper Warriors, six Cessna 152s, two Piper PA44-180 Seminoles and four Zlin Z-142 aircraft, alongside Antonov AN-2 and Kamov KA-26 aircraft used for specialised training.
  • AFM previously reported that Trener Flight Academy renewed its FlightLogger partnership in February 2026 under a 48-month agreement, with the academy training more than 100 cadets annually. The academy also expanded its simulator capacity to four devices following the installation of an ALSIM AL250 FNPT II in April 2026.
