Türkiye – The International Air Transport Association (IATA) delivered a five-day Competency-Based Training and Assessment course-development program to Turkish Airlines training designers and managers in Istanbul from 14 to 18 September 2026. The training supports the airline’s internal capability to design and structure CBTA-based flight crew programs.
- The course was delivered by Renier Yann, IATA Head of Training and Licensing, to Turkish Airlines personnel involved in training design and management.
- IATA’s Standardization for CBTA Course Developers – Pilot Training course comprises 40 hours of classroom instruction and is designed for pilot-training course developers, instructors and training managers.
- The curriculum covers ICAO competency frameworks, pilot and instructor/evaluator competencies, training specifications, adapted competency models, training and assessment plans, and training-system performance measurement.
- Participants are trained to apply the ADDIE instructional-system design model — Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement and Evaluate — when constructing CBTA programs for pilot training. IATA states that the course is aligned with ICAO provisions and its own CBTA best practices.
- Turkish Airlines Aviation Academy is an IATA Regional Training Partner in Istanbul and operates 22 classrooms plus a 120-seat conference room at its Atatürk Airport facility.
- IATA positions CBTA as applicable across pilot initial licensing, instructor/evaluator development and operator training, with supporting guidance developed through its Pilot Training and Licensing Task Force.
