Indian LCC Announces 2025 Appointment for Executive Director to Drive Strategic Growth

India – The Indian low‑cost carrier Spice Jet has announced the appointment of aviation veteran Sanjay Kumar as Executive Director, effective 3 November 2025. In this new capacity, Kumar will spearhead the airline’s strategic initiatives in expansion, operational excellence and business transformation, reporting directly to Chairman & Managing Director Ajay Singh.

• Kumar brings over three decades of experience in the aviation sector, with strong credentials in network planning, revenue management, marketing and commercial strategy.
• Previously, he spent nearly 12 years as Chief Commercial Officer at Indi Go and later served as its Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer.
• His leadership roles also include President & CEO at Inter Globe Technology Quotient and Chief Operating Officer at Air Asia India.
• For Spice Jet, this appointment comes as the carrier positions itself for a next‑phase growth push—amid fleet expansion, operational recovery and market share enhancement.

In September AFM reported that Spice Jet had announced an aggressive expansion for the upcoming winter schedule, planning to add 25 aircraft and nearly triple its daily flights from 100 to 280 starting in October, traditionally India’s busiest travel season.

• The expansion would be driven primarily by short-term leases from European lessors, who will provide 21 aircraft, including four Boeing 737 MAX jets.
• Spice Jet will also return four grounded aircraft to service, boosting operational capacity.
• At the time only 21 of Spice Jet’s 56-aircraft fleet are operational, with the rest grounded due to maintenance and parts shortages.
