IndiGo Selects Airbus's Skywise A320 Virtual Procedure Trainer

November 4, 2026

India – Indian airline IndiGo has signed an agreement with Airbus-owned digital aviation services provider Skywise to deploy the A320 Virtual Procedure Trainer (VPT), becoming the first airline worldwide to adopt the VPT abnormal and emergency procedures package. Announced on November 3, 2026, the agreement also makes IndiGo the first VPT customer in South Asia, expanding its digital pilot training capabilities alongside its existing Skywise MATe Suite deployment.

  • IndiGo currently has approximately 6,300 flight crew members using the MATe Suite (Mobile Airbus Training experience), which the airline first adopted in 2021. The addition of VPT supports its plans to train up to 1,000 pilots annually as it continues expanding its operations.
  • The agreement extends IndiGo's existing relationship with Airbus digital training solutions, now incorporated into the Skywise portfolio. The integration of MATe Suite and VPT provides a combined digital training environment covering aircraft systems knowledge, procedural familiarisation and preparation for full flight simulator sessions.
  • Skywise's expanded digital training portfolio, announced on November 2, 2026, brings MATe Suite, VPT and Flight eLearning under a single business platform, maintaining Airbus original equipment manufacturer (OEM) training content and standards.
  • AFM previously reported that IndiGo was among the initial airline customers for Airbus MATe Suite when the cloud-based training platform launched in July 2021. The original system introduced a three-dimensional interactive cockpit environment for initial type rating and recurrent pilot training, with cloud-based progress monitoring for instructors.
  • The Skywise A320 VPT is an interactive, cloud-based training application accessible through virtual reality and conventional flat-screen devices. It enables pilots to practise cockpit flows, standard operating procedures, normal checklists and abnormal and emergency scenarios before entering a Full Flight Simulator (FFS). The platform also supports interactive cockpit controls, virtual instructor guidance and self-paced procedural training.

Statements

  • “IndiGo is committed to adopting advanced technologies that support effective and scalable pilot training,” said Capt. Ashim Mittra, Senior Vice President – Flight Operations at IndiGo.
  • “IndiGo is redefining pilot training on a global stage. Building on their proven success with our Skywise MATe Suite, becoming the first airline worldwide to integrate the VPT abnormal and emergency package completes an immersive, OEM-standard training ecosystem built to match their incredible scale,” said Fabrice Villaumé, Head of Products Portfolio at Skywise.
