Syria – UAE-headquartered pilot training group Intercontinental Aviation Academy (FlyIAA) has opened an office in Damascus and begun the regulatory licensing process for a planned academy that would deliver both ground school and practical flight training in Syria. If approved, the project would add domestic ab-initio training capacity in a market where FlyIAA currently directs Syrian students into its established training network in Europe.

FlyIAA opened its Damascus presence in connection with an inaugural Open Day held on 26 July 2026 at the Golden Mazzeh Hotel, with the company subsequently announcing the development publicly on 7 August. The office will handle admissions, student support, career guidance and aviation education services.
The company has formally started the licensing process for a comprehensive aviation academy intended to provide theoretical instruction and practical flight training in Syria.
FlyIAA's current EASA ab-initio structure allows students to begin parts of their pathway locally before transitioning to European training bases for the applicable ATPL examinations and final CPL/ME-IR training phases. Its programme page currently lists a 96-week EASA ab-initio pathway.
